The Floriculture in the UK and Around the World
Flowers are always a delight to receive. They make people feel warm, loved and remembered. Thus, they are the perfect gift to special persons in your life to let them know that they are constantly on your mind.
The flower industry or floriculture, as experts would call it, is an ever-growing sector on a global scale. This means that wherever you are in the world, floriculture is always a buzzing business. At present, the Netherlands, Kenya, Colombia and Israel are the biggest flower-growing countries in the world. However, other nations like the Philippines, Malaysia, South Africa and Ecuador are joining this global sector. Some of the popularly grown species of flowers include roses, tulips, sunflowers, carnations, irises, daisies, orchids, lilacs, and lilies. Yet, more and more growers are exploring hybrid flowers that grow at very fast rates to satisfy high demands.
In the UK, a great percentage of flowers used by florists are cultivated and grown in the country itself. Most of the flowers grown in the UK are narcissi, daffodils and tulips, which can be found throughout the country. During spring, the country is the largest grower of daffodils, most of which are exported to different parts of the world. A lot of seasonal flowers are also being planted in the UK, some of which are aster, calla lily, delphinium and many others.
At present, the UK flower sector yields over two billion British Pounds year after year. This is caused by the average spending of people in the country, which is around 30 to 36 pounds a week. However, it still has not beaten France's ranking, as flowers are ordered from florists all over the country on a weekly basis, whereas for British people, they only buy flowers during special occasions.
